how much do mobile phone companies pay for their handsets?

Just looking for an approximation. Mainly in the UK, but any info would be useful.

Reason I ask is I have mobile phone insurance with a £30 excess and I’m wondering if they’re having a bit of a laugh ie. they only pay £20 for the new phone they send me anyway.

Thanks

  1. nowhere near what you end up paying for them

  2. A lot less than what we do.

  3. Not much electronics cost nothing to make and lots to buy i wouldn’t be surprised if its under £20 to make one!

  4. a £30 excess seems a bit steep……if you shop on the net you can find phone insurance for as little as £3.50 a month with no excess!

mobile companies pay pennies for handsets as they buy in very large bulk ammounts, they are trying to make more money from you all the time.

  6. The mobile phone companies do not produce the handsets as they are network providers (o2, T-Mobile etc) so they have an arrangement with the handset suppliers (nokia etc) to provide the handsets on the manufacturers behalf to encourage you to use their network. They get a slight discount on volume but u are not being ripped off.
