Which wireless phone company is right for me?

Need some opinions from everyone. My contract is about to expire and I’m not sure if I want to go through the hassle of switching or just stay with T-mobile.

Some background about my situation – I’m 21 and on a family plan with my parents and sister, but they concede to my greater knowledge of all things electronic and let me handle most of the decisions.

I usually base my decisions on which phone I want, but a close secondary basis is the price for the features I want; HTML (real) web browsing and unlimited texts/pix are the forerunners.

Currently, we are on T-mobile. I switched us here because I had a Sidekick that I loved and my friend worked there and was able to get us some good deals. I have had a Sidekick for about 5 years now (for anyone who knows about phones, I started with the original Sidekick ). I’m very much a creature of habit and have been reluctant to switch.

Now, however, I can’t deny the fact that T-mobile still doesn’t have 3G in my area (Pittsburgh) when all the other majors do. I’ve done some basic research on the other companies and here’s what I came up with:

T-mobile – Cheapest to just upgrade, because we wouldn’t have to pay for all new phones and activation fees. My mother and father would just keep their current phones. My sister’s is beat to **** and she wants one with a full keyboard. I’d probably just upgrade to the new Sidekick LX.

AT&T – Could be a cheap plan based on how I configure it. 3G speeds and from what I’ve heard, good wireless service. Nice phones to pick from, lots with the features I’m looking for. However, my friend who has worked in the phone company says AT&T is very underhanded and tricky with their fees.

Verizon – Company my father wants because of previous experiences with them. I have had them too and I will say their coverage was very good, but they have none of the features I want…? I’ve been to their website and tried to configure a plan but couldn’t find unlimited texts nor data.

Sprint – Haven’t even looked in to.

  1. sprint, love, just go with it
get a palm centro from sprint (3G everywhere), with a data plan(internet, pic mail, etc.) and be happy :D
    details here:

    http://www.palm.com/us/products/phones/centro/index.html

  2. AT&T

  3. Check out Cricket. If they are in your area,
they have the best prices, with no contracts.
It comes with unlimited long distance, unlimited
    texts, and 3G is available.
I would not recommend AT & T or Verizon.
T-Mobile service is good, but expensive. And they will nickle and dime you to death, plus tie
    you into a contract.

  4. Listen to me. If you want a good plan with unlimited texts and data, AT&T is the way to go. How do I know? I was with Verizon for 4 years, then I switched to AT&T. Why? The iPhone of course! AT&T has the best data plans and texting plans. You’re lucky that you didn’t look into Sprint. Sprint is the worst area for plans. Verizon has great coverage, but not great plans for data (trust me, I looked). Anyways, go with AT&T, they have great phones for messaging and data. If you go with AT&T, get the iPhone. It’s the best phone for data and messaging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
